The Bear Necessities

Yesterday evening, we arrived as usual ready for our rehearsal. But unfortunately, our rehearsal room was double-booked! We sat outside trying to decide what to do. Should we give up and go home? After all, whilst there was another room we could use, there was no piano for accompaniment. Anyone who has sung in a choir knows that one of the most difficult things to do is to stay in tune without accompaniment – a capella. But the pandemic has taught us something about necessities – what we are willing to give up, and what we are not. We love singing. The cares of the day just seem to wash away when we sing together. We did not want to give this up just because our rehearsal room was taken and we had no piano. And so we decided to practice in the alternative room without accompaniment. Our conductor, Richard, taught us some new techniques to support our voices. And then we sang. And it was marvellous. We could all hear the other voices as they blended together. We stayed perfectly in tune. And we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves – and we found a new choir member!

We hope you can come and join us at our next concert on June 18th and soak up some of the joy we have at singing. To find out more about the programme and purchase tickets, please click here.
