Zooming Along
2020 was quite a year for choirs and choral societies! For the Sine Nomine Singers this was no exception. Our last concert was one year ago in March 2020 just before the first lockdown (a recording from the concert is on our recordings page). Since then we have not been allowed by government restrictions to sing as a group in any indoor space, to help eliminate the risk of spreading the virus. But this has not meant that all activity has ceased. Thanks to our inventive musical director, Richard, many of us have been able to meet on Zoom for rehearsals. It’s been a steep learning curve for us all. And at our last rehearsal, we discovered filters that you can add for some fun. See if you can work out which are real, and which virtual headgear:
We’ve missed those who, for whatever reason, have not been able to join the Zoom rehearsals. And we’ve certainly missed singing together as a choir. But this has worked surprisingly well. Instead of just talking to one or two others at each rehearsal, we’ve actually got to know each other much better – and had plenty of fun.
But nothing beats coming back together again – which we hope to do later in 2021. And the icing on the cake would be to perform in a concert again – let’s hope we can do that by the end of the year. We’ll let you know once we have a date.
In the meantime, if you wish to join us and practise singing in your front room before we start rehearsing for a real concert, or for that matter would like to join us once we resume in person, drop us a line!
