After 66 Years We Have a Name!
This was what a phone looked like in 1958 when Sine Nomine Singers performed its first concert. They were heavy, weighing nearly 2kg, and were wired in place. There was no choice of colour, style or operating system. Most houses didn’t even have one of these – they had no phone at all and so most people used public phone boxes. Sine Nomine Singers was formed to be a small chamber group by people who had completed their national service. They weren’t sure about a name and so landed on the Latin for “without a name”.
Communication has changed immeasurably since then. We all find out about local events and organisations using the internet, with email, Google searches, Facebook, Instagram, X and WhatsApp. And we use a phone that weighs 500g and that we carry around in our pocket or handbag. After nearly seven decades of being the choir without a name, we thought it time to have one! We’ve renamed as Hillingdon Chamber Choir. It’s a so-called “Ronseal” name – does what it says on the tin. If someone is looking for a local choir to sing with, it makes us much easier to find digitally. We’re always delighted to welcome new members. We’ve opened a new website at www.hillingdonchamberchoir.org.uk and we’re on all the social media as @hillingdonchoir. Please take a look and follow us. And share links with your friends and family.
This will be the last newsletter from Sine Nomine Singers. But there will be more coming from Hillingdon Chamber Choir.
Our Christmas concert is on 7th December at 6pm in Eastcote. Details on our new website. It’s going to be a joyous start to the Christmas season so book now!
